Airhead for an airhead.

So I looked at a couple of old Airhead BMW's yesterday. One a 79 R80 and the other a 73 R75/5. Both were beat up and needed lots 'O love. I don't have that type of love to spare. The idea was to get an airhead for the ride to N.Y (Americade) as I've always wanted a BMW twin, and my Bonneville is brutal on the back I figured thats the way to go. Hmmmm My wife has other ideas! 

So I do have one more BMW to look at. It's a 74 R90/6 with 39.000K on the clock. But I have the faint suspicion that it'll go for more love than I have in my wallet. So Bonnie modification it may have to be. I need something to alleviate the back stress. New shocks at the rear? New seat? Umm.... new panniers (as the old ones are held on by bungee cords and ass....)

Then again there is the gearing. I think  a bigger front chain ring will help in moto cruising (and make the engine spin at a lower rpm). We'll see.. Lake George and Americade is 3 weeks away. I want to be prepared and kinda comfortable. (I also like new schwag!) The last "boys motorbike weekend" was in 1996 (egad!!!!!!!) to Laconia/Weirs beach. This trip is way long overdue!
