Picked up another bike 2 weeks ago. It ran, but rough.. It's a 1983 Honda CM 250 belt drive, 5 spd. and a bit rusty. I had to boost it with a Ford F 150. As I said, it ran but, umm it's had better days. The gas was at least 2 yrs old, the oil was like tar and well did I say it ran rough?
I boxed her up in that Ford and had her delivered to my place the day I saw it. I went to work and changed the oil, plugs and gas, and yeah it still didnt run well (idling) and smoked oil to boot (on start-up). A compression check found both cylinders in spec. then ran it up for 30 minutes and the clouds of oil disappeared -so things started to looked up. Guessing that the rotten idling was a dirty carburetor, I decided to pull it off and give it a good cleaning. Not a good Idea as me and carbs don't really have a stellar history of coexistence. So yeah it leaks. As did my Twinstar's carb after cleaning. I figure it's the float and needle so its back to the mancastle to try again. More later, here's the postcard.
