Relic Riders was coined on a warm spring day in 2007 with BMW fanatic Jake of R65 fame. It was our first long ride out to the "cottage" up in the Laurentian highlands of Harrington. We left town via the Hull side and took highway 148 along the Ottawa river until LaChaine. A quick deke left up Avoca road and the fun began. Cracked, tortured asphalt turned to hard packed dirt to soft sand. I missed a turn and and spun the bike around. I mentioned to Jake to take his right, and he did with gusto. We are still looking for that BMW luggage badge that went missing. We made the cottage and spent some time with my parents. Then off down the mountain to my favorite spot for taking pictures which overlooks the Harrington valley. The day was perfect for capturing images of two well used/loved machines. It didn't matter that they weren't the newest technology (mine was a newer machine based on old tech. Jake had the real deal) What mattered was the feeling you got when you rode them. No clutter, no gadgets no electronic "brains" helping you in the ride. Just you, a basic machine and the road. If you wrenched the bike yourself (as is the case with cheap 'ole me) then the better off you are as you have an relationship with the mechanicals as well as the cosmetics.
"Relics" was born on a sunny spring day. Then I got to ride the BMW and thats a whole other ball of wax.
