I finished off the Rouge road with a fast straight away run through the gears. I hit the metric ton and came off the throttle. For a second I imagined I was running a stage in the Dakar as my tires were levitating over the sand. Then I remembered that the Dakar doesn't take kindly to fools and I've been known to play the fool. Time to turn it down. At the end of the gravel road there is a 18% grade hill to climb. I took that standing. It was a rush. The rest of the ride comprised of asphalt and gravel. Lots of sun and shade and just plain fun. I know that road well as I learned to drive all sorts of vehicles and know where the sweet spots are. However ice has a way of playing hell with things. 1st gear sweepers were met on more than one occasion. The cottage road was fantastic. Very well graded and the usual bumps in their usual places. I took the bike into our driveway and found the only clear patch to park. I placed my requisite piece of wood under the stand and that was the ride up. I was to be occupied with an association meeting for the next 2 hrs and mega cups of high caffeine.
The ride back was on the Kilmar road. All asphalt, all shite but in a good way. The weather was warmer and the sun had time to act on the ice. Most of the road was mush but underneath was a layer of ice. I took some pictures and headed out. I was told the Kilmar was as bad as the Rouge. No way! It was leagues better but would have ate a low slung Harley for breaky. Thats the thing about this road. It is a fantastic swath through awesome country however the road condition is deplorable. I know of one family that lost 3 oil pans on this stretch! Nasty, unless you ride a dual sport. Then you are talking. That is what this bike (and a host of others) was made for. It is absolutely fantastic to ride and experience this perfectly legal type of motor biking.
The rest of the ride was a ribbon of straight tarmac. Plenty of time to just ride and ponder life, another great thing about riding bikes. You, the road and your thoughts. Boy we are lucky!
