When my last vehicle decided to give up the ghost (thank you North American Auto industry) I decided to look for that Honda. It had to be a manual transmission as boring automatics cause my head to hurt. Red would be great (although I was hoping for a desert camo paint job) No such luck. I found one at a local import car dealer test drove it for an hour. I found the closest arena and played 4X4 in the massive snotty snow pile (to check out the AWD system). I went back to the shop, decided I needed the timing belt done (needed it at 160K- this car had 158K) Wheeled and dealed and 2 days later the car was in my hot little hands.
Two years and 24.000 kilometers later I can report full satisfaction. I have done 1 brake pad change (done at home) multiple oil changes and 2 rear differential fluid changes (a small niggle known to CR-V's. The oil gets stale and squeels when the AWD system kicks in). Last years snowfall never halted forward motion. The system is perfect for my style of driving which comprises of city, cottage and ski hill roads. I have managed some sketchy field and off roads hills but it is not this cars forte.
The engine is an Accord 2.0 litre mated to a 5spd. The AWD system works as such- it is front wheel drive until the front tires slip. The rear differential notices the slip and couples a clutch to the rear axle which adds power to the rear wheels. It disengages when normal driving is accomplished and the brakes have been applied. Gas mileage is good (500 kilometers to a tank at a buck a litre) Depending on the driving though..
Very happy with this vehicle (as I have been with both Honda's that Ive owned)
