Spitting some rocks.

It was an uneventful ride to the trail head. Cold and overcast. It seemed par for the course so far in 2009. I had a bunch of things filling my head and playing out like a screen saver on slow mo. Lots of great changes in my life and troubling things swirling around my sphere of friends and family. I knew one thing for certain, a ride (be it on bicycles or motorbikes) has a way of wiping the slate clean for a little while.
This ride didnt disappoint.
I hadn't been up the Scotch in years. I was uncertain about any changes that had taken place other than the new highway 50 that grew over the top of the road. I was happy when that monstrosity was out of sight 30 seconds after I passed the over-pass. The hill that starts the road was still there and was as cranky and as bashed as ever. The road seemed unchanged except for some patchwork of loose crushed stone on some corners. It was a bombed out, crater strewn trail that still had it's 1st gear sweepers and sudden decreasing radius drops. Best yet, it had rained earlier in the week and had filled up those holes with a mucky ooze. I arrived at the sand pit and took a crack at the climb. I skirted left of the pond and gave 'er full throttle up the centre. I spun down to zero traction halfway up. I never came close to doing that with the VStrom. My confidence was up and I decided for some pics. I buzzed the pit and sputtered through the edge of the pond. Bliss- as water drenched my helmet and steamed up the nether regions of the motor.
On to the single track.
The whoops and fun was still there. Plenty of speed and plenty of trails to the left and right of me begging for attention. Which they will get! I think I spent 40 minutes playing around and hadn't scratched the surface. I decided to take my leave of this fun and head up to Dan's.
