So in honour of our frigid temperatures, I finally decided to get off my ass and fire up the old stove.. Its been a dust and junk collector for 4+ years now.
Took over 30 minutes to clean her out.
So off to the shed, gather wood. Split wood on side of house and bring in.. My axe was in the same place as was all the wood. Everything was waiting around all these years for me to get off my derrier.
It was a fairly big production as Coop was 1-2 months old and Q wasnt on the radar the last time she glowed radiant heat.
Its just been a cool looking lump of black iron and chrome plating..
But now she gets to proudly shine and show us what she was meant to do...
Within a minute of striking the match ( or flick of the bic) She was roaring.. 15 minutes after that I had a kettle on full boil.. The water box is full and simmering.
Its been 2 hrs now and the furnace hasnt budged..
The boys set up stools in front of her to bask in her warmth. And the house smells like a cottage...
Great start to 2014.
On the bike front ( should be ski-doo's)
Ive Stripped the R 65 down to the engine, wheels and subframe. The right side exhaust nut was seized so I cut it off. No hiccups with the strip down but I forsee issues with the electrics...Not my forte.
So to be done
- Push rod seals
- Steering head bearings
- Carb clean
- Exhaust clean and paint ( cross overs)
- New tires
- Oils and consumables (gaskets and filters)
- New cables
- And biggest job- spline lube.. Then again pulling cylinders off of push rod seals may be bigger.. We will see and Ill post here with updates...
Stay warm!!
